Uncle Tom's Cabin was initially released in serial format in the National Era, a weekly newspaper, from June 5, 1851-April 1, 1852.

Harriet Beecher Stowe's best known novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852), changed forever how Americans viewed slavery, the system that treated people as property. It demanded that the United States deliver on the promise of freedom and equality, galvanized the abolition movement and contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War. The book calls on us to confront the legacy of race relations in the U.S. as the title itself became a racial slur.

Uncle Tom's Cabin was a runaway best-seller, selling 10,000 copies in the United States in its first week; 300,000 in the first year; and in Great Britain, 1.5 million copies in one year. Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin will remain as one of the best works in history.

On my visit to the Kolkata Book Fair this year I came across this book on one of the stalls. instantly a likelihood crossed my mind. I have read an experts of the book in one of our English books in school. At the moment I wasn't sure what I had read in school but the curiosity to read the whole book was getting over me. Needless to say it was added in my library ;)

Uncle Tom's cabin is a very intriguing novel. There were times were I had tears in my eyes.
It is about a slave named Tom and how he was treated under different masters and it brings about a sharp contrast in characters as the story unfolds.

Centuries later too we can find that today in modern world too we can find similarities with the book . Some of us might think that slavery and inhumanity is passe. But it still exists in our modern society in the forms of races classes and castes.
Fair skin is still given preference over darker ones.
 

In a country like India where color and race and castes are still prevalent we can see many examples of slavery. Child labor been one of such.
Commercials and media promotes products which will give us fairer skins.

Rich people take advantage of poor still today, with the only difference that poor people are not bond by slavery but hunger.

Its said that history repeats itself. I would say that no matter how developed we call ourselves how far and fast the technology changes. History will keep repeating itself unless the mindset of people don't change.

Centuries have past human race have evolved but we are still lagging behind.

Good people and bad people is like a parallel line. I guess its a Gods way of bringing entertainment in our life's .
If all are good how else will we know what is bad?. How will we appreciate all the good things in life and how will we praise God and thank him for all the niceties we get ;)...
